TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested and charged a Wilmington man in connection with an incident on Main Street.

OWEN CUNNINGHAM, AGE 47, OF WILMINGTON, was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Stop for a Red Light

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Officer Ryan Sheehan was on patrol in the area of 1060 Main St., when he saw a white Dodge Ram being driven erratically. That truck then side-swiped another vehicle on Main Street.

When Officer Sheehan attempted to stop the Ram, it fled the area at a high rate of speed. Officer Sheehan did not pursue the truck due to public safety.

A short time later, Tewksbury Police were notified that a truck fitting the description of the one involved was parked behind a building at 663 Main St. A search of the immediate area around that truck located CUNNINGHAM in the woods nearby laying down under pieces of brush.

CUNNINGHAM was taken into custody without further incident. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court.
