The Tewksbury Police Department have 3 school resources officers who work out of Tewksbury Public Schools.

SRO Ryser

SRO Ryser is entering his fourth year as the School Resource Officer at Tewksbury Memorial
High School and his eighth year assigned as a School Resource Officer overall, as before
beginning at Tewksbury Memorial High School he served as the School Resource Officer at the John Wynn Middle School for five years.

SRO Ryser has been employed by the Tewksbury Police Department since 2008 when he
graduated from the Lowell Police Academy and assumed the duties of a Patrol Officer in Town. SRO Ryser worked in the Tewksbury Police Department’s Patrol Division for approximately nine years before being selected to serve as a School Resource Officer. Prior to joining the Tewksbury Police Department, he studied Criminal Justice at Umass Lowell and worked part time for the Lexington Police Department.

SRO Ryser is a lifelong resident who graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School. He has been involved in many of the youth sports programs in town as a Board Member, Official and Coach. He is also actively involved in the Tewksbury Police Athletic League.

Since being assigned to the Tewksbury Public Schools as a School Resource Officer in 2016, SRO Ryser has become an ALICE Instructor, Stop The Bleed Instructor, radKIDS Instructor, L.E.A.P. Instructor, and Life Skills Instructor. He is a member of the Department’s ATV Unit and is also a member of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s (NEMLEC) School Threat Assessment Response System (STARS Team).

When asked why he pursued the position of School Resource Officer, SRO Ryser says that he enjoys helping kids. He believes that building positive relationships between youths and Law Enforcement is very important and loves that in this position he is able to successfully interact with multiple students on a daily basis.

SRO Bjorkgren

SRO Rob Bjorkgren began his School Resource Officer career in 2022 and is now serving the John Ryan, Center Elementary and Dewing Schools, where he is better known as Officer Rob. Officer Rob has been employed with the Tewksbury Police Department since October of 2003. Prior to his career in law enforcement, he attended Westfield State University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Studies.

During his career as a law enforcement officer with TPD, he has served different functions within the department, such as: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Peer Support Unit, and ATV Instructor, and served on the NEMLEC Regional Response Team for 17 years. Since being assigned to the Tewksbury Public Schools as a School Resource Officer, Officer Rob has become an ALICE Instructor and a radKIDS Instructor.

Officer Rob is also a lifelong Tewksbury resident who, himself, graduated through the Tewksbury Public School System, attending the Trahan, Dewing, Middle, and Tewksbury Memorial High School. Along with serving as one of the School Resource Officers, Officer Rob volunteers as a youth football and baseball coach. He also serves as a board member for Tewksbury Youth Football & Cheer.

When asked why he pursued the position of School Resource Officer, Officer Rob stated that he feels with his understanding of kids, he can guide them through the unnecessary stresses they deal with in today’s world. Also, having two school-aged boys of his own and knowing so many kids and families throughout his life in Tewksbury as a resident and coach, he wants to protect each student as if they were his own.

SRO Hanley

SRO Hanley is entering his fourth year as the School Resource Officer at the John Wynn Middle School, and his fourth year assigned as a School Resource Officer overall, as he has been assigned as the SRO at the John Wynn Middle School since becoming an SRO on the fall of 2020.

SRO Hanley has been employed by the Tewksbury Police Department since 2002, when he graduated from the Weymouth Police Academy (5th MPOC) and assumed the duties of a Patrol Officer in Town. SRO Hanley worked in the Tewksbury Police Department’s Patrol Division for approximately 18 years before being selected to serve as a School Resource Officer. Prior to joining the Tewksbury Police Department, he studied Criminal Justice at Salem State University and worked part time, as a HS football coach, at Shawsheen Technical HS. SRO Hanley had to make the tough decision to leave college a year early, to become a Police Officer, but was able to complete his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice (CJ), then obtain his Master’s Degree in CJ from California Coast University.

SRO Hanley was born and raised in Tewksbury, and now resides in Billerica.

SRO Hanley has been involved in coaching both wrestling and baseball within the Tewksbury Police Athletic League (PAL) program.

Since being assigned to the Tewksbury Public Schools as a School Resource Officer in 2018, SRO Hanley has become an ALICE Instructor.

SRO Hanley is also a state certified CPR/ First Responder Instructor, Stop The Bleed Instructor, radKIDS Instructor, RAD Women’s Instructor, as well as a Field Training Officer He is a member of the Department’s ATV Unit and is also a member of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s (NEMLEC) School Threat Assessment Response System (STARS Team), on both the Operators Team and the Crisis Response Team.

SRO Hanley is also the Tewksbury Police Department’s Therapy Dog Handler. He and his partner, Officer Waffles, work tirelessly day in and day out to foster those positive relationships he talks so much about. For more information on this, see Officer Waffles bio page.

When asked why he pursued the position of School Resource Officer, SRO Hanley said that, even before he became a Police Officer, he enjoyed helping, guiding, and fostering positive relationships with kids to help them grow into active role models within their communities. He believes that bringing the gap by building positive relationships between youths and Law Enforcement is a very important role of an SRO and there is no other better position to be in to see that through, than being an SRO. The ability to interact, problem solve, and mentor kids every day is what makes SRO Hanley love his job day in and day out.
