Merrimack Valley Police Departments to Host “Wish Upon a Wave” Fundraiser Benefiting Make-A-Wish

NAHANT — Several Merrimack Valley police departments will come together on Sunday, March 22, to host “Wish Upon a Wave,” a fundraising event benefiting Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The event will begin at 12 p.m. at Nahant Short Beach near the Coast Guard Life Saving Building. Participants and spectators are invited to support local law enforcement as they brave the cold waters for a great cause.

All proceeds from the event will support Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses throughout the region.

Each participating department will sell commemorative patches to assist with fundraising efforts.

The following departments are participating in “Wish Upon a Wave”: the Billerica Police Department, Carlisle Police Department, Chelmsford Police Department, Nahant Police Department, Stoneham Police Department, Tewksbury Police Department, Tyngsborough Police Department, and the Westford Police Department.

Community members are encouraged to attend, cheer on participants, and contribute to the cause through donations and patch purchases.

“The Merrimack Valley’s first-ever Wish Upon A Wave represents what is possible when law enforcement agencies come together for something greater than themselves. Our departments are proud to stand united in support of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the incredible children and families they serve,” said Chelmsford Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan. “This event is more than just a show of bravery in cold water; it is a demonstration of our collective commitment to hope, compassion, and community. We are honored to work collaboratively across agencies to help make life-changing wishes come true.”

“I could not be more proud of the collaboration we are seeing across the Merrimack Valley for our first-ever Wish Upon A Wave. When law enforcement agencies come together in support of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, it sends a powerful message about who we are beyond the badge,” said Westford Police Lieutenant Brian Gendron. “This event reflects our shared commitment to service, compassion, and community. By working collectively, we are helping bring hope and strength to children and families facing unimaginable challenges. That is something truly worth standing together for.”

“Make a Wish is an amazing organization!  The true impact a “Wish” can have on a child battling a critical illness cannot be overstated.  Granting a child’s wish can bring strength and hope to both themselves and their families,” said Billerica Police Chief Roy Frost. “This type of support aligns perfectly with the values of Public Safety and the greater community to which we all belong.  Please join us in supporting these amazing children.”
