TEWKSBURY – Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department is investigating multiple motor vehicle break-ins and motor vehicle thefts that occurred in the early morning hours on Monday.

On Monday, March 25, at approximately 6:08 a.m., Tewksbury Police responded to the area of Charme Road for a report of a stolen motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with one resident who reported her car had been stolen and several other residents who reported their vehicles had been broken into. Officers obtained home surveillance footage of a suspect gaining entry into vehicles along the street.

Police were later dispatched to Pupkis Road where it was discovered that the stolen car from Charme Road had been dumped and a different car had been stolen. Residents in the area of Pupkis Road also reported that their vehicles had been broken into.  

Tewksbury Police have received nine reports of motor vehicle break-ins so far. At this time, it is believed that the same suspect was attempting to break into cars on Charme Road, Pupkis Road, and Heath Street.

The suspect is described as a male individual, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a yellow/orange hooded sweatshirt with a blue jacket, dark-colored pants, white and black sneakers, and bright green gloves.

A subsequent investigation determined that the suspect made a purchase using a stolen credit card in Chelmsford later Monday morning.

Tewksbury Police encourage anyone who lives in the area to check their home surveillance footage from the time frame of the break in’s and report any suspicious activity to Tewksbury Police.

Tewksbury Police would like to share the following safety tips from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) about preventing motor vehicle thefts:

  • Always be sure to lock your vehicle
  • Never leave car keys or house keys in the vehicle
  • Never leave valuables in the vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.
