TEWKSBURY – Police Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department successfully located a missing senior citizen on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, at approximately 8:15 a.m., Tewksbury Police were notified that a resident of Shawsheen Street who is in his 80s had not been seen since Monday night.

Police immediately began a large-scale search that included the Tewksbury Police Department Drone Unit, patrol resources, the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and numerous local K-9 units. The department also highlighted the ongoing search via numerous social media posts.

The missing man was located in a wooded area on East Street by Shawsheen Street about 2 p.m., after a Tewksbury resident, Janell Velozo, saw him in the woodline and called dispatchers. Velozo was aware of the search due to social media posts made by Tewksbury Police.

He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

“I want to thank all of our law enforcement partners who assisted us with this important search,” said Chief Columbus. “I am pleased to report we located the missing subject still in good health. I also want to thank all residents in the area who assisted us in our search by keeping an eye out and checking their home security cameras. This search showed the value of community engagement and involvement, and it was brought to a conclusion thanks to a tip from a resident and a quick follow up by officers.”
