The launch of the KultureCity App is part of a larger initiative by the Tewksbury Police Department to make the community more inclusive and accessible. In partnership with KultureCity, all Tewksbury police officers have undergone comprehensive training in sensory inclusion. This training, led by leading medical and neurodivergent professionals, equips officers to recognize sensory sensitivities and handle sensory overload situations effectively.
KultureCity, established in 2014, is a non-profit devoted to creating a more accessible and accepting world for individuals with sensory needs and invisible disabilities. The organization has certified more than 1,800 venues as sensory-inclusive, distributed nearly 1 million sensory bags, made over 150 live events sensory-inclusive, and saved 48 lives through the KultureCity First Responder Training. By partnering with event industry leaders such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, and FIFA, KultureCity is shaping a more inclusive world for everyone.
Chief Ryan Columbus emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “I’m extremely proud of our department for achieving this new certification, which means the Tewksbury Police Department is now better prepared to assist individuals with sensory sensitivities in having the most comfortable and accommodating experience possible. I encourage any community members who are interested to download our KultureCity app.”
The KultureCity App empowers individuals with sensory needs and their families to navigate their environment with confidence. Whether you’re planning a visit or responding to an emergency, this app ensures that sensory-friendly resources are always within reach.
