TEWKSBURY — The Tewksbury Police Department arrested and charged a Lawrence man with unarmed robbery and resisting arrest on Tuesday after he ran from police and across Interstate 495.
JEAN GUZMAN FAMILIA, age 33, of LAWRENCE, was arrested and charged with:
- Unarmed Robbery
- Resisting Arrest
- Disorderly Conduct
- Breaking and Entering Daytime
- Warrant
On Tuesday, Nov. 18, at approximately 9:23 p.m., the Tewksbury Police Department was notified of a disturbance in the area of 95 Main St.
A preliminary investigation conducted by officers at the scene determined that an individual identified as GUZMAN FAMILIA entered a room at the motel at 95 Main St., without authorization, and then forcibly took a cellular telephone from a woman who was staying in the room.
It was also determined that GUZMAN FAMILIA was wanted on an active arrest warrant.
GUZMAN FAMILIA fled the scene. Tewksbury officers, with assistance from the Tewksbury Police Drone Unit, began searching the immediate area.
An officer soon spotted GUZMAN FAMILIA in the area of Main Street and Interstate 495, but GUZMAN FAMILIA ran into a wooded area near the highway. The Tewksbury Police Drone Unit was able to locate GUZMAN FAMILIA in the wooded area, and observed from overhead as he attempted to run across the lanes of the Interstate.
It appeared GUZMAN FAMILIA was clipped by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the Interstate, and he went down in the highway’s median. Officers quickly responded to GUZMAN FAMILIA‘s location and provided first aid.
GUZMAN FAMILIA was initially unconscious, but regained consciousness after being given a dose of NARCAN. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and released later in the day.
GUZMAN FAMILIA was then booked at the Tewksbury Police Department.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court.
“This is an example of how complex policing can be,” said Chief Ryan Columbus. “I credit our officers for using technology, tracking a dangerous person, and quickly rendering aid to save him in a matter of minutes. I am extremely proud of the quick response, coordination and professionalism of these officers.”
These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
